Profile

Internationally experienced in general management, business development, partner management, pre-sales and post-sales technical support, IT strategy, customer services, professional services, training consultancy project management and every aspect of software development and implementation including database design and performance tuning.

Accomplished General Manager, having steered Steria UK Ltd through the difficult telecoms market climate of 2001, controlling a budget of £2M and building a pipeline of new business worth over £7M.

Recent Achievements

  • Defined and implemented the engagement process between the technology and business areas of Barclaycard Business including significant input to the re-definition of the IT strategy.
  • Re-defined the strategy for Steria UK Ltd., and steered the company through the difficult telecoms market climate in 2001 in preparation for the physical merger with the Integris business in 2002
  • Founded and defined the strategy for the Customer Services Division of Savera Systems Inc.
  • Built a brand new revenue earning Professional Services Organisation within Sema Group Telecoms achieving a turnover of £1.2M with six people in its first year of operations.

Portfolio Manager for Commercial Cards Issuing Directorate. Shaping, leading and delivering projects and programmes driven by the business strategy of the directorate.
Technology Partner (Barclaycard Business). Defining the IT strategic roadmap and the engagement process between the technology and business areas. Managing the technology demand pipeline for Barclaycard Business (Corporate Cards and Merchants). Facilitating technology solutions to match the business requirements and alignment with the IT strategic roadmap.
Senior Project Manager (Barclaycard UK). Management of projects delivering change to the business. Projects included the migration of business critical applications from out-dated mainframe technology to new mainframe platforms, incorporation of DDA into all areas of business and the implementation of a programme designed to improve leadership at all levels within the company. Also implemented Sarbanes Oxley within the R&D function of Barclaycard UK.
Technology Business Partner (Barclaycard UK). Shaping the IT and Operations strategy for the most significant business division of Barclaycard UK, including budgeting and alignment with Barclays Group technology strategy. Facilitating the delivery of the strategy by joining up the demand from the business areas with the many facets of the supply chain, both internal and external.

Managing Director. Founded a brand new business to provide industrial consultancy and training to small manufacturing companies focussing on significant and measurable improvement of their processes to make them more efficient and cost effective.

Steria UK Ltd
Initially Director of International Business Development and Consultancy, subsequently becoming General Manager of UK and Ireland in January 2001. Redefined the strategy of this young subsidiary to become much more focussed. Progressed business with existing customers. Won new business in the areas of network management and revenue assurance. Established appropriate and proactive partnerships with companies such as IBM and Acterna. Raised Steria’s profile in the UK and Ireland. Managed the P&L, driving down costs when necessary.

Savera Systems Inc Global Director of Customer Services
Built and managed the Customer Support and Training departments in a small, growing company whose main products were web based interconnect billing and pre paid administration systems which underpin the business of telecoms operators. Also took over the running of Savera’s biggest partnership project. This involved the integration of the InterCarrier product into a much larger solution. The entire project was being run by CSC Computer Sciences Ltd in UK.

Technology Solutions Manager
Reporting to the Sales and Marketing Director. Working with Account Managers, Telco customers, Product Managers and Bid Managers, to put together technologically feasible solutions to fit the current and future requirements of existing and prospective customers. The role relied heavily on experience and knowledge, and involved liaison with hardware and software suppliers.
Technology Support Services Manager
Built and managed the Professional services organisation known as the Technology Support Services Group (TSS). Responsible for hardware and software support of the in-house development projects and of the customers. This involved on-site support during installation, implementation, upgrades and major problems. Built a revenue stream of £1.2M during the first year of operations. Also responsible for putting together the annual HW budget proposal for R&D, which was worth £3M.

Pre-sales Consultant and Manager (Vice President): Providing technical consultancy in support of the sales teams. This included installation, implementation, advising customers, health checks and performance tuning, presentations at all levels, marketing events and training; mostly on Ingres and associated products, but also on other databases and development tools. The job has also involved the management of up to 45 other consultants and associated resources across EMEA.
Appointed as a Vice President of Computer Associates in April 1996.
Education Consultant and Training Team Leader: Training clients to use the Ingres User Interface Tools to develop applications, and also teaching the Ingres DBA, System Administration, Advanced Performance and Replicator courses.A one day course in Unix basic skills was also delivered. Involved development of new courses and upgrading of old courses.
